Dinthill Tech march to seven straight wins

LINSTEAD, St Catherine — Dinthill Technical took their perfect win record to seven straight in the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition after coming from behind to beat Ewarton High 4-2 in their Zone K return-round game played in Linstead.

The bad weather affecting the island was the main feature, as approximately 10 games were not played due to flooded fields. One game, Black River vs Little London in Zone D was not played as no officials showed up, while the Clarendon College game was not played as a number of players on the Thompson Town team was reported to have been affected with viral conjunctivitis (pink eye).

It was business as usual for Dinthill Technical, as, despite trailing 0-1 at half-time, scored the next three goals in the game came from Shamari Davis, Michael Edwards and Tevin Cheese to take a 3-1 lead.

Ewarton then cut the deficit to 3-2, but Kaheem Parris restored their two-goal advantage with his 11th goal of the season.

St Mary Technical had their five-game win streak snapped after they were beaten 2-1 by Brimmervale in Zone J.

Oracabessa High used the opportunity to cut St Mary Technical’s lead to two points after hammering Iona High 5-0, and St Mary High stayed in third place with a 2-0 win over Carron Hall.

St James High and defending champions Cornwall College are locked on 12 points in Zone A after wins over Maldon High and Irwin High, respectively.

St James High brought Maldon High down to earth, ending their three-game win streak with a 3-0 win at Jarrett Park and stayed on top on goal difference.

Shavon McDonald scored two first-half goals as Cornwall College beat Irwin High 4-0 in their first game on the school compound this season.

Aiden Jokomba scored in his second-straight game, while Garnett Hudson scored his first goal of the season, giving Cornwall College the lead in the first minute.

Cornwall College started like a house on fire and led 3-0 after seven minutes before taking their foot off the gas.

Spot Valley High rebounded from their 2-2 draw against Cedric Titus on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Holland High in their Zone C game at Spot Valley.

Cedric Titus High ended Herbert Morrison’s brief flurry of two wins, edging them 2-1 in Montego Bay to open a five-point gap between the two schools with four games to be played.

Spot Valley lead with 16 points, followed by Cedric Titus on 12 and Herbert Morrison on seven points.

Alston High maintained their one-point lead in Zone G after beating Spalding High 3-1 and are on 16 points, marginally ahead of Holmwood Technical, who nipped Christiana High 1-0.

Knox College moved past Christiana into fourth place after their 2-0 win over Troy High.
