Central, Garvey Maceo battle for Zone N honours
Zone leaders Central High School and former champions Garvey Maceo will square off this afternoon in a rescheduled ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup game at Juici Park in Clarendon to determine the winners of that zone. Kick-off is 2:00 pm.
The game was originally scheduled for September 9, but was postponed because of issues related to Central High’s designated home field.
Both teams have already qualified for the second round of the competition that also kicks off today with 10 games. Today’s outcome will also determine the rankings of 10 other schools.
For the first time, the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) are ranking teams from one to 32 determine second-round match-ups in the home-and-away play-offs.
Central High, who are on 22 points, are currently in 14th position on 12 ranking points, while Garvey Maceo (21 points) are on nine ranking points and in 24th place overall.
Their resverse game ended 0-0 and Garvey Maceo will pit their spotless defensive record — zero goals allowed — against the Central High offence that has produced 15 goals.
Central High conceded their first goal of the season on Monday in a 0-1 loss to Vere Technical, but will hope to revert to their winning form today. They will rely on top scorer Donald Rhule to guide them to the win.
Garvey Maceo will have momentum on their side after coming off a 1-0 win over Kemps Hill in which Gavin Roberts scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
