FIFTY CENTS RELEASES MAIDEN TAG

Fifty Cents, trained by Andrew McDonald and ridden by Jerome Innis, was able to release her maiden tag at Caymanas Park on Saturday.

After just six outings with one third-place finish, Fifty Cents put her head in front going five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m) then sat behind Lady Exotic (Anthony Thomas) before scampering away to win by over three lengths in a time of 1:07.2.

The win gave McDonald his 11th winner for the season, while it was Innis’s eighth time visiting the winners’ enclosure.

RARE WINNER FOR DELROY BEHARIE

Delroy Beharie said that hard work, dedication and confidence were the key elements to his victory aboard the Richard Azan-trained Awesome Sauce last Saturday – his first win at Caymanas Park in well over a year.

Sent off as a 35-1 betting option, Awesome Sauce came with a strong run on the outside of horses in deep stretch to win by a length and a quarter over Winter Is Coming (Oneil Mullings) and El Maestro (Wesley Henry). The final time for the Restricted Allowance Cash Pot ‘Rake’ Trophy over a mile (1,600m) was 1:40.2.

“It feels wonderful. It was just an amazing feeling knowing I just won my first race in a good while. I am working really hard and keeping myself together. Once the rides come, I will do my very best to make use of them.

“The plan was to get a good break and a good position and make my move at the three-furlong point, but there was a twist to the plan. I broke good, but the horse was pulling me really hard and so I didn’t take him off his momentum; I just left him and dropped my hands to keep him relaxed.

“When I was making my move at the three-furlong (600m) point, I got hindered, but she recovered well and got up in time for the win. I am really happy for the victory and will continue to work as hard as I can, and hopefully I can get more winners.”

DACOSTA’S TRIPLE

Wayne DaCosta, in a bid to win his 17th trainer title, saddled three winners on the 11-race programme at Caymanas Park last Saturday.

DaCosta won the first race with Brandy, ridden by Oneil Mullings over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m).

He then saddled Queen Of Bagdad (Jerome Innis) in the third race over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).

DaCosta’s third winner came in the eighth race when Hover Craft came with a strong run in deep stretch to beat rivals in the Overnight Allowance event goingnine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).

“It is nice to be back in the winners’ enclosure. The last three or four months have been a dry spell, but the horses are coming back and rounding to good form and so I am really pleased with the performances by them today (Saturday),” DaCosta said.

FAVOURITES BITE THE DUST ON SATURDAY

Punters were left to ponder on Saturday after the running of the 11th race at Caymanas Park.

Only one favourite obliged in those 11 races, and that was Yo Love in the last race, trained by Oneil Markland.

The programme got going with Brandy at 8-1; that was followed by Awesome Sauce at 35-1 and A.P.I at 6-1, ensuring that the Sunrise 6 was not caught.

In the Twilight 6, Hover Craft at 9-1, Fifty Cents at 23-1 and Fastandflashy at 3-1 denied all punters.

EIGHT HORSES CLAIMED ON SATURDAY

Eight horses were claimed on the 11-race programme at Caymanas Park on Saturday.

Sunshine City was claimed from Clifton McLeish by Patrick Fong for New Blue Limited; Also Correct was claimed from Paul Hylton by Anthony Nunes for Stephan Narinesingh; Moneyneversleep was claimed from Robert Darby Snr by Renex Burrell for Dennis Thwaites; Legendary Pleasure was claimed from Paul Smith by Patrick Chang for Marcia Helmsley; Paintthistownred was claimed from Winchester McIntosh by Gary Crawford for Omar Smith, and Counter Attack was claimed from Steven Todd by Dalton Sirjue for TAPE from the second race.

All claims were made for $250,000. Anthony Nunes claimed Sweet Dimension from Dwight Chen for Stephan Narinesingh for $450,000 from the fourth race.

Fastandflashy, who won the seventh race, was claimed from Albert Chong by Leroy Tomlinson for M&S Syndicate for $180,000.
