Third person convicted in AGD fraud case
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A third person has been convicted in the fraud scheme perpetrated against the Accountant General’s Department (AGD) in 2015, referred to as the “dead claims” matter.
Kemar Lewis was last Tuesday fined $300,000 or nine months in prison when he appeared before court on charges to defraud, receiving stolen property and money laundering.
Lewis pleaded guilty and is to again appear before court, this time in relation to money laundering charges laid by the Financial Investigation Division under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
His bail conditions were also extended.
Julia Parkinson, the confessed mastermind and a former AGD staff member, was sentenced in March 2015 to three years on 44 counts of obtaining money by false pretences, while a second co- conspirator, Wayne McKenzie, was in December 2015 sentenced to 12 months at hard labour.
