DRAX HALL, St Ann — Former champions Rusea’s High fought back from a first-leg deficit to beat Brown’s Town High 5-4 on penalties at Drax Hall yesterday after they were tied 1-1 after 180 minutes of regulation and extra time in their ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup second-round tie.

The 10-time champions had lost Saturday’s first leg 0-1 at the Montego Bay Sports Complex and had to fight their way back from the brink of elimination and book a spot on the quarter-finals set to start on Saturday.

Five other schools including two former champions — St James High and Garvey Maceo High — also secured their places in the quarter-finals with all 16 spots filled.

Daniel Reid scored for Rusea’s High in the first half as they grabbed an early equaliser, but failed to get the other goal as Brown’s Town held their own against the more fancied team.

At Jarrett Park Ewan Barton scored twice, once in either half as St James High beat Mile Gully 3-0 for a 7-0 aggregate to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Barton scored four goals in the tie after he scored twice in Saturday’s first leg that St James High won 4-0, and Akeem Smith, who also scored twice on Saturday, scored the opening goal yesterday.

Spot Valley High will join St James High and Clarendon College in Group One of the quarter-finals after they beat Fair Prospect 3-1 in the first game at Jarrett Park for a 5-3 aggregate after the first leg ended in a 2-2 scoreline.

Spot Valley High made things more difficult for themselves as they wasted a handful of good scoring chances before scoring two quick goals in stoppage time at the end of the first half.

Terence McKenzie gave them the lead from the penalty spot three minutes into stoppage time before Courtney Chisholm added a second, a minute later.

Kemar Lingard pulled a goal back for Fair Prospect in the 52nd minute, but Jaleel Parkinson got a third goal for Spot Valley in the 87th minute to kill off the game.

Garvey Maceo will also be in Group One after their 2-0 win over Seaforth High at Juici Field for a 4-1 aggregate victory with Jermaine Muirhead and Gavin Roberts scoring.

Central High qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time after eliminating Petersfield High 4-1 on aggregate after winning yesterday’s return leg 2-1 at Juici Field, ending the Westmoreland school bid for a fourth straight quarter-final berth.

For their efforts, Central High will be placed in Group Four in the next round along with Manchester High, Dinthill Technical and Frome Technical.

Little London High came from behind for a second time after battling back from 1-0 down at half time to beat Alston High 2-1 at Frome yesterday and win their tie 3-2 on aggregate.

Dadrian Davis and Clive Silburn scored for Little London who return to the quarter-finals in back-to-back years and will be in Group Three along with St Elizabeth Technical High School, Glenmuir High and Holmwood Technical.
