Four more!
In-form jockey Dick Cardenas followed up on his three-timer last Saturday with a superb four-timer in consecutive races on the nine-race midweek programme at Caymanas Park yesterday.
The Panamanian passed the winning post in front on five occasions, but one of his mount, Meticulous, was disqualified from the last race for causing interference. Cardenas had earlier won aboard Wartime, Bigman Union, Minniffia and Nothingbutthebest, with Meticulous putting the icing on the cake.
“You know, it’s horse racing and everybody can make a mistake at times. My mistake was that I took too long to ask my horse to go, as I should’ve pushed him through earlier. My horse ran a little green whenever he sees any horse in front and eventually the incident happened, but I feel very happy I win four races and I am grateful for the winners,” Cardenas stated, even as he watched his colours being taken down by the stewards.
Cardenas has now ridden 27 winners in the space of 11 race days to take his tally to 29 for the season.
Cardenas started off in the second race when he brilliantly rode the Wayne Parchment-trained Wartime to a neck victory over Flying Machine and Vision Of Gold over seven furlongs (1,400m). The final time was 1:26.3 minutes.
It was an easier ride on Bigman Union in the next race, also over seven furlongs (1,400m), as the Anthony Ferguson-trained horse romped home by nine-and-a-half lengths in the maiden special weight event. The winning time was 1:29.3 minutes.
The fourth race, the Alty & Rita McKenzie Memorial Cup feature, was no different as Cardenas aboard Minniffia made light work of the opposition, winning the one- mile (1,600m) event by four lengths, going away in 1:41.3 minutes.
The four-timer was sealed in the fifth race over the five furlongs (1,000m) straight aboard Nothingbutthebest for trainer Patrick Lynch.
Trainer Steven Todd saddled his 100th career winner when Dreaming Of Magic, ridden by Jemar Jackson, won the opening event.
