Trainer Richard Azan doesn’t want to jump the gun too early, but after Honey Ryda’s encouraging run last Saturday, he now thinks that he has another good prospect in his stall.

After a good fourth-place finish behind the talented pair of Patriarch and Another Vigorous in the Cash Pot ‘Only One For Me’ Trophy over six furlongs (1,200m) recently, Honey Ryda returned in a Restricted Allowance event over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m) and slammed rivals by over five lengths.

“That fourth-place finish in the Cash Pot Trophy race was a really good run by Honey Ryda, and [her performance] today (Saturday) showed that she is improving a lot now. If all goes well with her, I am expecting her to become one of the better-quality horses that I have in my stables,” Azan said.

Ridden by the in-form Dick Cardenas, Honey Ryda got a good break and settled into second position behind Go Go Girl (Ameth Robles).

As the small field of six started to string out at the half-mile (800m), Cardenas let loose on Honey Ryda and the chestnut filly responded well, challenging Go Go Girl at the top of the lane.

From there on, Honey Ryda pulled away to win by five-and-a-half lengths over Go Go Girl, Dad’s Luck (Phillip Parchment) and Key Witness (Prince Holder), in that order.

Bred by Trevor James and owned by NYA, Honey Ryda ( Adore The Gold – Kathythetraina) posted a time of 1:07.1 for the distance, backed with splits of 22.3 and 46.2 seconds.

“The performance was good. I think that she is a very nice filly and I am just going to take my time with her, and I think that she can also get a distance of ground as well,” Azan said.

When asked if Honey Ryda is being considered for the Pick3 Super Challenge Trophy, the second leg in the Supreme Ventures Limited-sponsored Two-Year-Old Triple Crown series, Azan said: “Well, I don’t know as yet, but let’s wait and see how she finishes up out of this race. I am not sure if I am going there, but we’ll see.”
