British woman caught with cocaine at Sangster airport to serve 18 months

ST JAMES, Jamaica — A British woman, who pleaded guilty to breaches of the Dangerous Drug Act after she was caught with cocaine at the Sangster International Airport last month, was on Wednesday sentenced to 18 months in prison with hard labour.

 She is 36-year-old Amanda George who, in addition to imprisonment, was fined $800,000 or six months imprisonment for cocaine possession and $850,000 or six months imprisonment for attempting to export cocaine

George was arrested at the Sangster International Airport on Sunday, October 08, when police officers found cocaine weighing approximately 3.1 kilograms in a false compartment of her suitcase.

She was attempting to board a flight destined for Birmingham, England.
