MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions Herbert Morrison Technical and Cornwall College, both unbeaten in the Under-16 category, will meet at Cornwall College in a double-header in the second round of the ISSA Western Conference boys’ basketball competition.

The teams had met last Monday at Herbert Morrison but the fixture was washed out with Herbert Morrison leading in the Under-16 game after the third quarter and according to the rules of the competition, both games will be replayed at a later date.

Also today, Muschett High and Holland will meet at Muschett, in a double-header.

Herbert Morrison leads in both categories and are coming off big wins over York Castle on Friday while Cornwall College split their games against Holland High, winning the Under 16 but losing the Under 19 by six points while missing over 20 free throws in the game.

Herbert Morrison won their Under-16 game 43-19 against York Castle and 94-50 in the Under-19 while Cornwall College beat Holland by 50 points 70-20 in the juniors, but Holland flipped the script and won the senior game 44-38.

Anthony Thorpe scored 20 points and had eight rebounds for Herbert Morrison’s Under-16 team that led 11-3 after the first quarter, 19-9 at the half-time break, and 33-11 going into the fourth quarter.

In the Under-19 game, four players scored in double digits for Herbert Morrison, led by Brendan Dawkins’ 33 points, David Gordon scored 22 points, Davaughn Campbell scored 15 points, while Alek Gilchrist just missed a quadruple double with 12 points, 15 rebounds, 10 blocked shots and eight steals.

Ihajah Clarke scored 20 points for York Castle High while Evaughn Barnett had nine points.

At Holland, the home team were held to single-digit scoring in all four quarters as Cornwall College led 15-7, 30-12 and 55-18 after the first three quarters.

Omar Campbell led Cornwall College with a triple double 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, while Romario Senior scored 10 points and had nine rebounds.

Mario Brown had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Holland High.

Holland came from behind in the seniors to score their second win of the season, trailing 5-9, 15-17 and 28-29 at the respective stoppages, with three players fouling out in the final two and half minutes of regulation playing and with just four players from the 1 minute 15 seconds mark, but they held on to win.

Cornwall College missed 21 free throws in the game, despite Ryan Whyte leading all scorers with 13 points and 16 rebounds and Ojay Marshall scoring nine points.

Owen Rodney scored 11 points to lead Holland and Rhajaun Williams scored 10 points.
