Highlights of UNWTO global conference
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Global Conference on Jobs & Inclusive Growth: Partnerships for Sustainable Tourism conference concluded at the spacious Montego Bay Convention Centre in Rose Hall, St James yesterday.
There were more than 1,400 delegates in attendance at the three-day conference, a first of its kind for the Caribbean region.
The deliberations which started on Monday, featured tourism leaders and delegates from several countries discussing a wide range of tourism-related topics.
These included panel discussions on ‘The Future of Tourism in the Caribbean’, ‘Big Data, Best Data and Data Analytics in Tourism and sessions dealing with ‘Community Tourism’ and ‘Current Trends in Indigenous Tourism’.
Speakers included Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, UNWTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai as well as several other ministers of tourism and tourism players and partners from local, regional and international bodies.
The conference also featured a glitzy tourism icon awards and dinner ceremony.
