Road repairs at Riverton disposal site causing delays in garbage collections
THE National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), through the MPM Waste Management Limited, is currently undertaking temporary remedial work on interior roads on the Riverton disposal site following severe damage caused by the persistent rains experienced over several months.
“With the approaching Christmas season and the expected increase in generation of solid waste, we will not attempt a permanent fix at this time as this would cause significant disruption in our collection schedule across Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine, said the NSWMA in a release yesterday.
“As a result of the temporary work currently being undertaken, operations at the Riverton disposal site has been negatively affected. This has resulted in truckers experiencing long delay at times. Inevitably, our collection schedule across Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine has been disrupted,” said the release.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and assure the public that we are doing everything possible to complete these works and return to normal operations.”
