Police: People caught blocking roads will be prosecuted
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Police High Command says it is aware of a message being circulated on social media encouraging members of the public to participate in road blocks, and is reminding Jamaicans that such actions are illegal.
The police said in a news release that anyone caught blocking roads will be prosecuted for breaching the law.
“While the public has a right to peaceful assembly, people are reminded that this right comes with the responsibility of not impeding or inconveniencing others,” the police said.
It added that the constitutional right of freedom of assembly should not negatively impact public order or public safety, neither should it rob other citizens of their right to freedom of movement.
