Harbour View dominate KSAFA U-13, U-15 awards
The Harbour View FC family was the toast of the town when the club collected trophies and medals for winning the Milo/KSAFA Under-13 and Nesfruty/KSAFA Under-15 competitions at an awards ceremony at Nestlè Jamaica head offices in Ferry Pen on Thursday.
Of the 19 awards given out on the day, the Stars Of The East walked away with 12. Apart from being crowned champions of the Under-13 and Under-15 competitions, the club’s Under-13 coach Sydney McFarlane was adjudged Coach of the Year.
McFarlene, who was winning the award for the second consecutive time, also received $50,000.
Harbour View FC stamped their class once again by defeating Real Mona FC 1-0 in the Under-13 final and Santos 2-0 in the Under-15 decider. Both finals were played at Constant Spring on Sunday, November 19.
Milo also staged a one-day tournament where five of the top Under-13 players were chosen to represent Jamaica in Barcelona, Spain.
“It was a great opportunity for the children’s psychological development to be exposed to the training and skill development approach garnered from the FC Barcelona coaches in the short trip,” said KSAFA President Wayne Shaw, in his presentation.
Nestle Jamaica Limited, through their brands Milo and Nesfruty, supports the KSAFA-run competitions with sponsorship to the tune of $8 million, while associate sponsor Port Authority of Jamaica puts in $400,000.
Competitions committee chairman Marc Williams said this year’s saw marked improvement over the previous one.
“This year, with the corporate power and marketing, muscle of our sponsors Nestle behind our efforts, there was an obvious improvement in our final product which was displayed before our fans,” he said.
“This year it is very important to note that between both competitions, there was a total of 286 games played and I’m happy to report there was not one incident of any violence or serious misconduct arising from any of the matches despite the competitive and physical nature of the game,” Williams noted.
