NFL — Week 15 to provide play-off answers
Following one of the most unpredictable weeks of the 2017 season and with only three weeks left, we’re in the back stretch in the regular season, the play-offs are finally within sight. If the season ended today, only four teams from last year would be sure of a return to the playoffs in 2017 — the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs would be the only sure repeats at the moment.
Week 15 will provide a clearer picture, but if the play-offs were to start today the standings would be as follows:
American Football Conference National Football Conference
1. Pittsburgh Steelers (11-2) 1. Philadelphia Eagles (11-2)
2. New England Patriots (10-3) 2. Minnesota Vikings (10-3)
3. Jacksonville Jaguars (9-4) 3. Los Angeles Rams (9-4)
4. Kansas City Chiefs (7-6) 4. New Orleans Saints (9-4)
5. Tennessee Titans (8-5) 5. Carolina Panthers (9-4)
6. Baltimore Ravens (7-6) 6. Atlanta Falcons (8-5)
In contention: In contention:
Los Angeles Chargers (7-6) Seattle Seahawks (8-5)
Buffalo Bills (7-6) Detroit Lions (7-6)
Oakland Raiders (6-7) Green Bay Packers (7-6)
Miami Dolphins (6-7) Dallas Cowboys (7-6)
Still alive: Still alive:
New York Jets (5-8) Arizona Cardinals (6-7)
Cincinnati Bengals (5-8) Eliminated:
Houston Texans (4-9) Washington Redskins (5-8)

With so much riding on Week 15, most games have play-off implications, but here are some of the most keenly anticipated matchups: RAMS (9-4) at SEAHAWKS (8-5) — If the Seattle Seahawks had lost and the Los Angeles Rams won last Sunday, the NFC West race would probably be over. The Seahawks’ 30-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday could have been more devastating, but fortunately for them, the Los Angeles Rams lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 43-35. Therefore, Sunday’s game at CenturyLink Field between these teams will put the NFC West first place on the line. If the Rams win, they will more than likely win the division as they would be two games ahead of the Seahawks with two games to play. However, if the Seahawks win, they would be tied with Los Angeles have the head-to-head tiebreaker (the Seahawks beat the Rams in Week 5). Despite losing to Philadelphia on Sunday, the Rams managed to score 35 points to bring their season average to 30.5 points per game. When these two teams last met in October, Rams’ QB Jared Goff had his worst game of the season, completing only 46.8 per cent of his passes while throwing two interceptions with no touchdowns. Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor combined for 10 tackles in Seattle’s effort on that day, but are both sidelined with injuries this time around. JustBet offers the Seahawks as two-point favourites at home, but the the Rams are looking to upset on their way to their first play-off berth since 2004. This may be too close to call, but Seattle are very hard to beat at home.
PATRIOTS (10-3) at STEELERS (11-2) – This week’s matchup will be the 31st meeting overall and the third -straight year these two teams will play in the regular season. Pittsburgh leads the regular season series by a 14-11 margin, while New England leads 4-1 in the post-season. Last season, the Patriots beat Pittsburgh 27-16 at Heinz Field, and then beat the Steelers for a second time with a 36-17 win at Gillette Stadium in the AFC Championship Game. Additionally, Patriots QB Tom Brady has the upper hand in this rivalry with Steelers’ QB Ben Roethlisberger, winning seven of nine career matchups. The Patriots won eight games in a row going into Week 14, but lost surprisingly at Miami on Monday night 27-20. They got outgained and outrushed and lost both the turnover and time of possession battles — This was the first time that has happened this season, but they were without tight end Rob Gronkowski and he will be back from suspension this week.
The Steelers own an eightgame win streak of their own, following their 39-38 come-from-behind victory over Baltimore on Sunday night. Pittsburgh put up 545 yards of offense, as Roethlisberger completed 44 of 66 passes for 506 yards and two touchdowns. The Steelers have outgained nine of its last 10 opponents and outrushed six of its last eight. At 11-2, the Steelers lead New England by one game in the battle for the best record in the AFC, but the Patriots are 3-point JustBet favourites this weekend and, if they claim a victory at Pittsburgh, they will clinch the 20th division championship in franchise history, including their ninth straight. If there was ever a must-watch NFL regular-season game, this is it, and the expectation is the favourites will prevail.
JustBet offers attractive odds on all NFL games each week and for the Division, Conference and Super Bowl winners. The New England Patriots (despite their shocking Monday night loss) are safely in the play-offs and remain favourites to win the Super Bowl at $3.25 while the Pittsburgh Steelers are still in the second favourite spot at $6.00. The Minnesota Vikings have impressed and sit as current third favourites at $7.50, while the Philadelphia Eagles have lost their starting QB for the rest of the season and have slid to the fourth spot at $9.00.
