Dear Editor,

Have you ever heard of any violence or any serious crime being committed in Port Royal?

For years I have never heard of any uprising or any looting and shooting in that little town. Isn’t that wonderful?

Port Royal seems to be a very peaceful and quiet place.

All the parishes in Jamaica, that seem to be at war or are infested by murderers and criminals, should strive to be like Port Royal — violence-free.

We need to take a leaf out of Port Royal’s book. It is a place that is steadfastly and continuously at peace.

What a joy and relief it would be if the rest of Jamaica could be like that little community known as Port Royal — a place that was destroyed by a massive earthquake in 1692.

Port Royal reminds me of the good, old days when people were only afraid of “duppy” or “rolling calf”. We could walk late at night, or could go anywhere our feet or vehicles could take us.

Jamaica, which was known as the land of paradise, needs peace now more than ever.
