The song Mirage by Alkaline has taken off like a rocket. It is the first official release of the new year from the “Vendetta Boss”. Released on the Tru Ambassador label, the song has racked up over 1.2 million views, just one week after it was uploaded to YouTube.

“I’m not surprised that the song has taken off in such a short period of time, but at the same time, it’s an overwhelming feeling,” said Jahvel Morrison, producer of the track.

Morrison, who is in his mid-20s, has been producing for the past 10 years. His fortunes have improved since Mirage.

He told the Jamaica Observer how the collaboration came about.

“I first collaborated with Alkaline in the summer of 2017 when we partnered to release the song My Love. I had been reaching out to him for a few years and he decided that mutual interest, especially regarding creativity, would be necessary in working together,” said Morrison.

Morrison, who is from Linstead, St. Catherine, attended Charlemont High before moving on to Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts to do a degree programme in music education and performing arts. But due to financial difficulties, he had to discontinue.

“After failing to complete college due to financial difficulties, at the time making beats became a source of comfort and an opportunity to continue being involved in music, to further pursue dreams of becoming a successful music icon. I started making beats and approaching different artistes with the hope of working on a project with them,” Morrison said.

The first artiste he worked with was dancehall artiste Bugle. Their collaboration resulted in the song Don’t Give Up, which garnered significant airplay.

He has since worked with Charly Black (Just Do it), Ishawna (Do Di Tings) and Shaq Royal (Whine Don’t Stop).

Morrison shared some of the highlights of his career as a producer.

“In 2016 after producing the Sexy Ting Riddim compilation, which featured Charly black, I had the opportunity to produce My Love by Alkaline. That song became a favourite that would lead to opening doors and to even greater success with the current song Mirage,” he said.

Morrison is already back in the studios working on follow-up songs, with the hope of making himself known globally as a force in the production arena.

He dreams of working with Barbadian pop singer Rihanna.

“I’ve always loved Rihanna’s work, so, the possibility to work with her would be a great accomplishment,” he added.
