MONTEGO BAY, St James — Herbert Morrison Technical extended their own impressive record when they won a fourth-straight ISSA Western Conference boys basketball double on Friday, wrapping up both the Under-16 and Under-19 sections at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.

The Dave Black-coached teams completed 2-0 series wins in their best-of-three finals against William Knibb Memorial in the Under-16 section, with a 47-33 victory and 70-55 against Spot Valley High at the Under-19 level.

All three teams — Herbert Morrison in both sections as well as William Knibb in the Under-16 and Spot Valley in the Under-19 — will compete in the all-island play-off set to start later this month.

Meanwhile, Cornwall College and Muschett High won their respective third-place consolation games on Friday. Kenrick Brown had a quadruple double for Cornwall College in their 53-42 win over Rhodes Hall, scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds, 10 blocked shots and 10 steals. Rushane Francis scored 12 points and had 10 steals.

Muschett High scored a lop-sided 49 points (61-12) win over Holland High in the Under-19 game, with Deandre Stewart scoring 15 points and Akile Guthrie earning 12 points and 11 rebounds.

It was the Herbert Morrison show, however, as the Under-19 team completed a third-straight perfect season with four players scoring in double digits in a final in which they were never seriously challenged.

Herbert Morrison led 14-10 after the first quarter, then doubled their margin to eight (34-26) at half-time, and were up 57-45 at the end of the third quarter.

Alek Gilchrist had a double-double 18 points and 13 rebounds for the winners as Brendan Dawkins led all scorers with 21 points, David Gordon scored 19 points, and Akilo Tracey scored 10 points.

Roger Hines had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Spot Valley High, while Giovanni Bailey had 11 points and 11 assists for Spot Valley with Kimali Edmondson chipping in with 10 points.

William Knibb Memorial’s luck ran out as, after getting into the semi-finals on an appeal and coming from behind in the final 15 seconds to beat Cornwall College in the semi-final, they lost both games in the finals by a combined 78-107.

On Friday they were outplayed 33-47 and held to single-digit scoring in the first three quarters. Cornwall College’s coach George Beckford was then ejected from the court with three and half minutes left in the game after he aggressively disputed the number of fouls on a Herbert Morrison player.

They trailed 28-40 at the time of the interruption and also had two players — Rhondane Ashman who was later named MVP and Tusaine Burgess — fouled out.

Anthony Thorpe led Herbert Morrison to victory with 18 points and 21 rebounds, Taj Hewitt scored 10 points and had 15 rebounds, while Darren King scored six points and had 17 rebounds.

Ashman scored 14 points for Williams Knibb and had 10 rebounds.
