Games in the Kingston and St Andrew section of the 2018 ISSA/Lockerroom Sports High School Girls Football competition were postponed yesterday due to the unavailability of referees.

Six games were down to be played in which Clan Carthy were to face Meadowbrook, Denham Town were to go up against Camperdown, and Immaculate were to take on Edith Dalton James in Zone E action. In Zone F, Yallahs were to go up against defending champions Excelsior; Wolmer’s Girls’ were to face Tivoli, and Ardenne were to face Campion.

Malica Reid, chairman for the Kingston & St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Referees Group, said that due to the late appointment of referees to the games, the matches had to be postponed.

“I don’t know why the referees were not available, I only knew why a few weren’t available. To my knowledge, a few of the referees contacted the office and said that they had received the appointment of matches too late and hence they [referees] weren’t able to attend the games. Basically, the notice was too short and so they weren’t able to service the games,” Reid told the Jamaica Observer.

In those games that were played yesterday, Bridgeport had a comfortable 2-0 win over hosts Cumberland, and Ewarton were held 1-1 at home by McGrath in Zone D action.

Over in Zone C, Rena Gordon found the back of the net six times as last’s year beaten finalists Lennon rolled over Mile Gully 11-0.
