JTA president urges teachers to be on ‘high alert’
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — The president of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association Georgia Waugh-Richards has sound a warning and has placed teachers on high alert in-light of the rejection of the governments six per cent wage offer.
In addressing teachers Friday night at St Elizabeth Technical High School playfield at the awards ceremony of the netball and football competitions final she clearly stated that “six per cent no cut it” and teachers should be on “high alert”.
“The Jamaica Teachers Association is not just about academics, the Jamaica Teachers Association is about total development of the teacher and that’s why the six per cent no cut it because our teachers deserve much more and better than that and this activity is possible preparing us for a greater activity where we are going to be more strength and ‘stick-to-itiveness’, togetherness where we will be uniting and serving for what might be as we will be wearing blue or black so I am just putting us on high alert,” she declared.
Teachers and other government workers and engrossed in wage negotiations with government and have rejected the six per cent offer although the negotiations continue.
