Violet Kickers into St James Division One final
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Violet Kickers shook off several seasons of mediocrity after qualifying for the final of the St James Football Association’s Sandals/ATL Division One, after beating Club Ville SC 2-1 in their return-leg semi-final at the UDC field on Thursday.
The teams had played out a 0-0 draw in their first leg a week earlier and Violet Kickers, who earned automatic promotion to the Senior League next season, will meet Bogue FC in the final set for Jarrett Park next week Saturday.
Shevaughn Allen scored twice for Violet Kickers on Thursday after they had endured a drab, colourless first leg.
Allen scored in the 14th and 59th minutes, while Keino Campbell scored in time added on at the end of the game for Club Ville.
Violet Kickers, the former two-time National Premier League champions of the mid-1990s, had endured several seasons of poor results after winning the Senior League and qualifying for the Western Confederation Super League.
Since those successes, they have endured three seasons of sub-par performances, including back-to-back seasons where they were demoted, ending up in the Division One.
The Vinton Williams-coached team were demoted from the Super League after just one year and lasted just one season in the St James Senior League, and just managed to stay there last season.
