RSPL names the season’s best
Arnett Gardens’ Fabian Reid was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Cavalier’s Alex Marshall the Youth Player of the Year when the Red Stripe League Awards were announced on Monday night.
Reid, who walked away with $100,000, netted 16 goals and finished second in the Golden Boots race won by Craig Foster, who represented both Reno and Humble Lion and scored 17 goals. He also collected $100,000.
Portmore’s Shaven-Sean Paul won the Golden Glove Top Goalkeeper of the Year award and $100,000.
Former Reggae Boyz captain and coach of Portmore United Shavar Thomas was declared Coach of the Year, and for that, he collected $150,000. Orlando McBayne of Montego Bay United took home the Anthony Burrowes Players’ Award and $100,000.
Portmore United dominated the awards. Apart from bagging $2.5 million for winning the title, they also collected $1 million for being preliminary-round winners.
Portmore collected a further $75,000 for the Team with the Most Wins and another $75,000 for Top Scoring Team. Tough-tackling defender Damano Solomon was the MVP of the final.
Waterhouse received $1.5 million as runners-up, while Cavalier by virtue of losing to the eventual winner in the semi-final, was adjudged to be the third-placed winner and they walked away with $1 million. Arnett Gardens, who lost to runners-up Waterhouse in the semi-finals, were fourth and given $500,000.
Cavalier SC won the Fair Play Award which comes with $100,000, and Harbour View was the Most Defensive Team and receiving $75,000.
The man in the middle during the final, Oshane Nation, was the Top Referee and collected $30,000, while Stephanie Dale Yeesingh was voted the Top Assistant Referee. She too got a trophy and $30,000.
Relegated teams Sandals South Coast FC and Boys’ Town collected $70,000 and $60,000 for finishing 11th and 12th, respectively. They will be playing parish football next season.
