Gov’t to meet with firefighters over wages
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has arranged for a conciliation meeting with members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade tomorrow.
The meeting, which is scheduled for 9:00 am, is as a result of industrial action (in the form of a sick-out) taken by firefighters today over the inability of the government to settle outstanding matters related to wage and fringe benefits negotiations dated back to 2015.
According to the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers (JALGO) the parishes affected by the industrial action are Portland, St Ann, Trelawny, St James, Hanover, Westmoreland, Manchester and Clarendon.
JALGO also stated that the firefighters will remain on industrial action pending the outcome of the meeting tomorrow.
