New national record for Fedrick Dacres
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Fedrick Dacres improved on his national record of 68.88m in the discus throw after he set a massive new mark of 69.67m while winning the event at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting this morning.
Dacres, the Commonwealth Games gold medallist and record holder also set a new World Lead mark as well as a meeting record as he rebounded from a sub-par performance last week in Oslo, Norway.
He also improved his season best effort of 68.51m.
The former IAAF World Youth and World Junior champion opened with a modest 68.15m before unleashing his monster throw in the second round then fouled on his final effort.
He was pushed all the way by former World Leader Lithuania’s Andrius Gudzius who improved his personal best to 69.59m.
Gudzius had the top four throws coming into the meet with a season’s best 69.30m.
