LUCEA, Hanover — Police in Hanover were up to late yesterday probing the gun slaying of the alleged One Voice gang leader and his mother, who were killed when men pounced on them at their home in the parish Wednesday night.

The alleged gangster has been identified as 25-year-old Uton Crockett while his mother is Carlene Graver, 45, both from the Elgin Town area of Lucea.

The police reported that Crockett and his mother were shot execution-style about 9:30 pm.

The police were called by residents and upon their arrival, the bullet-riddled bodies of the two were found on the floor.

A police source disclosed that Crockett took over the leadership of the One Voice gang after his mother’s brother, Valdemier Chambers, also called Wingie, was slain by gunmen last year.

Chambers had taken the reins of the criminal enterprise after Omario Burrell, also called Duplex, was shot dead during a confrontation with the Hanover police months before.

The police reported that one .38 revolver with one .38 round was seized during the incident in which Burrell was killed.

Last year, the Hanover police reported that the One Voice gang had been behind a series of attacks and other illegal activities in the parish.

Meanwhile, Wednesday night’s double murder brings to 42 the number of murders recorded in Hanover since the start of the year.
