Motocross Summer Series in high gear
COME September, round three of Irie Racing Motocross Summer Series is scheduled to return to DaCosta Farms in St Catherine.
“The sport is alive and gaining huge interest. Riders are dusting off their bikes, also a lot of persons are purchasing bikes and gear to come out and get involved. MX Jamaica is here to stay and have Motocross racing several times throughout the year,” Kyle Reynolds, an executive of Irie Racing, told the Jamaica Observer‘s weekly Auto magazine.
The second round of the 2018 Irie Racing Motocross Summer Series was held at the Temple Hall MX Park in St Andrew, on July 29. It was different from the opening round in St Catherine. However, it provided the same amount of action fans of the two-wheeled sport have come to love.
“MX Jamaica team was very happy with how round two of the Irie Racing MX Summer Series turned out as the date clashed with another event, but I think we were able to still have an awesome day of racing,” said Reynolds.
The opening round at DaCosta Farms in St Catherine was a fast, dusty affair. The Temple Hall track presented a tighter, smaller course to the riders nestled under the cool upper St Andrew trees. This meant everyone fighting off any advantage they could, resulting in some thrilling races throughout the day.
At the end of the day across the six classes, it was Craig Powell Jr leading the 50cc racers. Alexander Handal led the 65cc pack. Cameron Lee was ahead in the 85cc class. In the tougher B class it was Antonio Rizza at the top of the scoreboard. Reynolds took both the A and Open classes. Jason McIntosh was one of two riders in the ATV class.
