KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is warning motorists to be cautious on the roads following reports that unscrupulous persons are posing as police officers in unmarked vehicles with blue flashing lights.

The JCF, in advisory issued via its Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) this afternoon, said an account of one alleged incident is currently being circulated in a voice note on social media.

So far, two reports are reportedly being investigated by police investigators; however, the lawmen did disclose where these incidents have taken place.

CCU added that the issue is being treated with the greatest level of importance and urgency.

In the meantime, the Police High Command is also strongly reminding motorists against installing and using flashing lights and/or sirens on their vehicles.

Motorists who have modified their vehicles with flashing lights and/or sirens that imitate those used by authorised emergency vehicles, such as police vehicles, ambulances and fire engines, are being warned to remove them immediately.

CCU said that those who ignore this warning to remove the devices will not only face inconvenience but more so the full brunt of the law, including the seizure of the vehicles to have them removed forthwith.

These issues are being treated with the greatest level of importance and urgency and the investigations are ongoing.

At the same time, police investigators are appealing to individuals who may have been victims, or who may have information that can assist in the arrest and charge of these perpetrators to contact the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) at 876-937-1389. Individuals may also share information through Crime Stop at 311, 811 or police 119 emergency number.
