With the reigns tightening on big technology companies and countries to address security and privacy concerns on massive data breaches, the American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica, AMCHAM Jamaica, in partnership with member company e-Biz ProTrain will, be hosting its first ‘Regional Data Security Conference’ under the theme: ‘Your Data Your Rights — What Individuals and Companies should know.”

The conference, to be held September 12 and 13, will address a number of data security concerns as well as provide information and solutions regarding the activation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union this year, which highlighted the growing importance of managing risks and opportunities related to the digital landscape.

AMCHAM Jamaica CEO, Gail Abrahams says “the conference is timely, as it takes to the fore the issue of data security across the region, while providing key insights on what individuals and companies should know to protect themselves and their investments”. She adds that the conference will also address the current policies and legislation on data security.’

Carolien Aikman, Director at e-Biz ProTrain agrees and notes that “in this digital age, it is incumbent on everyone to arm themselves with the requisite information. She explains that this conference will not be a talk shop but a working conference, which will address the “real data issues and provide workable and realistic solutions”.

To date, several local and international speakers have been confirmed, including Facebook’s, Irene Quinonez; Google’s Gabriel Recalde; Data protection and privacy experts out of Washington DC from the international law firm Sidley Austin, Ed McNicholas and Dean Forbes; International Trade Consultant Jan Remy, PHD; and Grace Lindo, Partner in Nunes, Scholefield, Deleon & Co; and ICT4D Consultant Carlton Samuels.
