There is absolutely no doubt that Will In Charge, the Robert Pearson-trained five-year-old chestnut horse, is one of the most improved horses in training at present.

Bred by Adore The Gold out of the Meadow Flight mare Gem Lea, Will In Charge has two wins from three starts thus far this season, with those wins being in the Legal Light Trophy (nine furlongs and 25 yards) on April 21 and the Chairman’s Trophy (seven and a half furlongs) on June 9.

In the Legal Light Trophy, Will In Charge had the reigning Horse of the Year She’s A Maneater a length behind him, and in the Chairman’s Trophy, he had the former two-time Horse of the Year Seeking My Dream a length and a half behind him.

Now the far-striding horse has the opportunity to write another chapter in his 28-race career in the 55th running of the $1.3-million Prime Minister’s Stakes highlighter, on the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park today.

Will In Charge, who is the defending champion, will take on four rivals in one of the longest-running races on the calendar going over 10 furlongs (2,000m).

Perfect Neighbour and Houdini’s Magic will surely keep Will In Charge honest, while Superluminal and Marvellous Marva are in the race only to test the deepness of the water.

The Prime Minister’s Stakes, a Graded Stakes event for three-year-olds and upward, is positioned as the fifth race on the card and is set to go to post at 2:50 pm, with first post at noon.

Will In Charge‘s only loss for the season came on June 30 in the nine-furlong (1,800m) The Viceroy Trophy, in which he had finished in fourth place by over four lengths behind Houdini’s Magic. However, based on his history, Will In Charge is much more at home over two turns. Will In Charge has been prepared well for this and, despite the top weight of 57 kgs (126 lb), he should be better than the rest. Robert Halledeen will ride.

Perfect Neighbour bounced back to winning ways on August 15 when he scored a length-and-a-half win over Lightning Lily over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) at the Open Allowance level. Even though stepping up to top grade, Perfect Neighbour will be coming at them in the straight. Strong and a true performer, Perfect Neighbour is going to fight this one out. Anthony Thomas will ride for champion trainer, Wayne DaCosta.

Houdini’s Magic won handsomely on June 30 in The Viceroy Trophy when putting away the likes of Bigdaddykool, She’s A Maneater and Will In Charge.

Houdini’s Magic was nowhere to be found in his next start over seven furlongs (1,400m), where he finished in eighth place by 16 1/2 lengths to She’s A Maneater. Houdini’s Magic is sometimes difficult to assess, but if allowed to lead unattended then his chances are that much better. Houdini’s Magic can strike at any time and Dick Cardenas will ride for trainer Anthony Nunes.

Also on tap is the 11th running of the Seek Exercise Book Trophy, an Open Allowance event for three-year-olds and upward going six and a half furlongs (1,300m) for a purse of $1.25 million.

Nine will run, with the Patrick Lynch-trained Another Bullet likely to be the winner. He should get strong competition from Sarah Lee, Uncle Frank, Jamai Raja and Wong Don.
