Windies Under-15s return from winning tour of UK
ST JOHN’S, Antigua — The West Indies Under-15 team is back in the region after a successful tour of the UK.
They ended the series with three wins, two losses and a no-result. The team beat the London Schools’ Cricket Association twice and scored another win against Hampshire. They lost to South West England and the Barmy Army Colts; while there was no result in the Hertfordshire game (rained out).
Of the five matches played, one of the 50-overs was reduced to a Twenty20.
Top performers for the tour were Nimar Bolden – most runs; Andrew Rambaran — best fielder; Jaden Leacock — man of the series and most wickets he also opened and closed the batting and bowling; and Jordan Johnson — had a five-wicket-haul in the match against London and East Region.
Dr Oba Gulston, who went as the manager with the team, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, as the “focus was on development. We rotated the players and fulfilled our mission on all parts of the game”.
Dr Gulston noted that the team adapted well and was able to win the series, which is “commendable at this level. On the off days we engaged the young men in several cross-cultural activities which included sight-seeing, a variety of meals, and team- building exercises. This is important as the young men set their sights on being part of the Windies elite team in the future.” While the team toured, senior Windies batsman Kieran Powell stopped to visit, and while there, the team also attended at T20 County match — Surrey v Hampshire, “it was a thrilling encounter for the young men,” added Dr Gulston.
The squad included Hilroy Andrew (Antigua/Leeward islands), Ackeem Auguste (St Lucia/Windward Islands), Nimar Bolden (Barbados), Carlon Bowen-Tuckett (Nevis/Leeward Islands), Mavendra Dindyal (Guyana), Jordan Johnson (Jamaica), Johan Layne (Barbados), Jaden Leacock (Barbados), Tariq O’Neale (Barbados), Andrew Rambaran (Trinidad and Tobago), Yawani Regis (Dominica/Windward Islands), Che Simmons (Barbados), Sanjay Walker (Jamaica), Rashad Worrell (Barbados).
The squad was accompanied by Dr Oba Gulston as manager and physiotherapist, along with Richard Clarke (head coach) and Steve Liburd (assistant coach).
