More men than women bleaching — health ministry survey
KINGSTON, Jamaica — According to a health and lifestyle survey released this morning by the Ministry of Health, approximately 11 per cent of Jamaicans bleached their skins.
The survey also noted that of that number, more men (12.5 per cent of the population) reported bleaching against 8.5 per cent of women. However, only three per cent of the total admitted using bleaching products at the time they were interviewed.
Prevalence in bleaching was notably highest among the age group 15-34 years old, and the bleaching products were all imported.
The Jamaica Health Lifestyle Survey is currently being discussed at a meeting at the Mona Visitors Lodge on the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies.
