GREEN ISLAND, Hanover —High-riding Frome Technical could face their first real test of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football season today when they take on Green Island High in Green Island in a Zone B game set to start at 3:30 pm.

Frome Technical, champions in the 2003 season, are one of five schools which will be seeking a fourth-straight win to start the season, while Clarendon College will be going after their third as 35 games are down to be contested.

Defending champions Rusea’s High and former winners Cornwall College, St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) and Garvey Maceo, as well as Morant Bay High,have won their first three games and will be on the hunt for more points today.

Manchester High and Brown’s Town scored big wins yesterday as the competition continued with six games.

Janoi Simpson scored a brace as Manchester High drubbed deCarteret College 7-2 in Zone F, taking his tally of the season to four goals.

BB Coke beat Mile Gully 3-2 to take over second place, while Belair High scored their first win of the season, running past May Day 4-2.

Roshawn Vernon scored a hat-trick as Brown’s Town blanked Iona High 6-0 in Zone I, while Adijay Gibson scored in his third-consecutive game as the winners improved to 10 points at the top of the tables.

Ocho Rios High also improved to 10 points with a 1-0 win over Oracabessa High, while York Castle were 2-1 winners over Marcus Garvey Technical

Today, the Aaron Lawrence-coached Frome Technical, who are off to a brilliant start scoring five goals in each of their three games so far, will seek to add Green Island to their list of victims.

After being outplayed in their opening game, losing 0-4 to Rusea’s, Green Island have rebounded with back-to-back 4-0 wins and will be further boosted by not losing at home against Frome Technical in the last two years.

Rusea’s are coming off a close shave against Hopewell High, winning 3-2, and should have things easier at Merlene Ottey who have yet to score a goal in their three outings so far.

In Zone A, Cornwall College will have a score to settle at Maldon High, where they were beaten 1-3 last season — their only loss in Zone A since the 2013 season.

So far, Cornwall College have won their three games by a 7-0 combined scores, while Maldon got their first point of the season on Saturday after holding St James High to a 1-1 draw.

After a slow start, Cornwall have shown improvements as after edging Irwin 1-0, as they beat Green Pond 2-0 then swept by Anchovy High 4-0 on Saturday.

STETHS got off to a fast start with a 10-0 win over newcomers Sydney Pagon High, but have scored just four times in their last two games and will face a Lacovia High team that is yet to score a win.

After ending Glenmuir High’s 10-game win streak in Zone M down the years, Garvey Maceo will face Cross Keys High who have lost all three games by a 0-8 aggregate.

Morant Bay High have just managed to win all three games, winning by 1-0 margins, and will face second-placed Seaforth High who are four points adrift with a win and two draws.

Clarendon College have outscored their two opponents by an 8-0 margin and face Thompson Town, who they have a perfect win record against.
