Jockey Vassell ‘Jolly’ Najair injured at the track
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Veteran jockey Vassell Najair was injured at the racetrack a short while ago and is now in hospital.
It is being reported that just before the start of the sixth race on the 10-race mid-week card at Caymanas Park, Perfect Asset, number 7 in the race with Jerome Innis, started to misbehave and then bolted behind the gates.
It is further understood that Najair, who was near to the winners’ enclosure, stepped out onto the track to assist in guiding Perfect Asset through the opening leading down to the entry and exit tunnel.
According to one eye witness, Perfect Asset did not go down the tunnel but instead veered with Najair running behind. Perfect Asset, now extremely fractious, lashed out at Najair who was hit several times.
He was immediately attended to by race day medical personnel before being rushed to hospital.
