Wolmer’s clip Holy Trinity 2-1 in Manning Cup
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Wolmer’s Boys took a stranglehold on Group G with a 2-1 win over Holy Trinity High in their top-of-the-table Manning Cup clash at the Santos field in Kingston yesterday.
Wolmer’s, with their sixth win from seven games have opened up a four point lead atop the group on 19 points. Holy Trinity which were losing their second match of the season, both times to Wolmer’s, stays second on 15 points with three set of games remaining.
Meanwhile, third-placed Edith Dalton James clipped Jose Marti 1-0 and moved to 13 points, just two behind Holy Trinity while Waterford stayed in fourth on six points following their 0-0 draw with Pembroke Hall, who are a point behind in fifth spot. Jose Marti are rooted to the bottom after picking up their first point of the season.
With the Santos facility bursting at the seams, home team Holy Trinity and Wolmers’ Boy battled for supremacy in an entertaining game that could have gone either way.
Rivaldo English gave Wolmer’s a 45th minute lead latching onto a long ball and slotted past the advancing goalkeeper Stephon Lindsay despite the valiant effort from defender Ricardo Dixon to prevent the ball from trickling into the net.
Holy Trinity struck back with the goal of the match as Phillon Lawrence swivelled a volley home from just inside the box in the 68th minute. But Wolmer’s restored their advantage as the lanky Clayone Haynes scored in the 71st minute.
