ISSA football rally to kick off on September 12
KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) football season will kick off on September 12 with a football rally scheduled for five venues across the island.
This rally will be between the 30 seeded teams that will skip the first round of the urban Manning and the rural daCosta Cup competitions.
The venues booked so far are St George’s College, Manchester High, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Glenmuir High. The fifth venue is yet to be decided.
The rally will see teams from the urban area playing teams from the rural area in some 35-minute games with a 10-minute break. Each team will play two games for the day.
At the end of the day, there will be no crowned champion, but there will be sectional prizes such as Goal of the Day and Player of the Day.
This one-day rally has nothing to do with the Manning or DaCosta Cup competition. No points will be awarded.
This added rally comes after ISSA altered the schoolboy football format that will see unseeded teams compete in the first round for the right to join the seeded teams in the second round of both Manning and daCosta Cup competitions.
Meanwhile, the top teams will get a chance to compete in the Walker and Ben Francis Knockout Cup competitions for the first time since 2018, in a welcome return to the traditional format.
