Alborosie releases album on Friday
Italian-born reggae artiste Alborosie is set to release his latest album this Friday.
Alborosie Meets The Roots Radics: Dub For The Radicals was engineered, produced and mixed by Alborosie using vintage analog gear, dub sirens, reel-to-reel-tape, and live instrumentation from Alborosie and reggae icons the Roots Radics. This release marks the first album to be released by VP Records this year, as the company celebrates its 40th anniversary. This project follows his 2018 release, Unbreakable: Alborosie Meets The Wailers United, which was released in June and featured members of Bob Marley’s former backing band The Wailers.
According to the artiste, both bodies of work exemplify his continued work to preserve reggae music by working with the originators and helping to connect reggae music with fans around the world.
Local audiences can hear some of the new work when he headlines a special Strictly the Best live concert series in Montego Bay on January 30. He then will embark on a tour beginning in February in Bogota, Colombia, and wrapping up at Summer Jam in Cologne, Germany, in July. Continuing to showcase his master dub abilities, Alborosie also recently launched Dub Mechanic, a YouTube series in which he creates dub mixes live in his Kingston recording studio. So far he has done dub mixes of Live Conscious, Table Has Turned, One Chord Dub and Contradiction featuring Chronixx.
Born and raised in Marsala, Sicily, Italy, but now residing in Kingston, Jamaica, Alborosie is a multi-instrumentalist, being proficient in guitar, bass, drums and keyboard. His musical career began in 1993 in the Italian reggae band Reggae National Tickets, from Bergamo city, when he was 15 years old.
In 2001 Alborosie decided to embark on a solo career. He moved to Jamaica to be close to reggae music’s roots and Rastafari culture. There, he started working as a sound engineer and producer. He has also worked with artistes like Gentleman and Ky-Mani Marley. His first solo album was Soul Pirate. In the summer of 2009 he released his second album Escape from Babylon.
The name Alborosie was given to him in the early years after moving to Jamaica.
