KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Water Commission (NWC) has been shortlisted by Global Water Intelligence (GWI), a world leading publisher on water sector issues, for a Global Water Award in the category of Water Leader of the Year 2018.

The Global Water Award consideration which the NWC said was not solicited by the Commission, is in recognition of the entity’s “position as the island’s primary water service provider and its aggressive multi-million US dollar non-revenue water (NRW) reduction programme and a number of other transformative strategic programmes being implemented by the Commission with expected meaningful impacts on the future of water services in Jamaica.”

Over the last 15 years GWI has built its business around being a trusted interface between its clients and their markets, providing customers with high-level intelligence that enables them to make the most informed strategic decisions for their business, the NWC said in a release.

The Global Water Award ceremony will take place on April 9 at the Natural History Museum in the United Kingdom.

NWC President Mark Barnett said that the NWC is “humbled and pleased” by the positive global recognition even as it is facing many immediate challenges and renews its commitment to fixing Jamaica’s long-standing potable water issues.
