KINGSTON, Jamaica — With only three days to the March 15 tax filing deadline, the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says it will be extending Its hours all of this week to facilitate taxpayers who may need last minute assistance.

The TAJ said its Customer Care Centre will be operating from 8:30 am -7:00 pm each day this week March 11-15.

To facilitate smooth operations, the TAJ said additional staff has been deployed throughout tax offices to ensure that forms are properly completed and to direct taxpayers to the correct areas for filing their returns.

People filing a “nil” Return will be directed to specially assigned officers or a special line to submit their return. Alternately, people may be advised to use the electronic drop boxes available in main tax offices to file a “nil” return or if they are paying by cheque.

In addition, extra cashiering stations will be opened at several tax offices, primarily to handle the large volumes of returns normally submitted by accounting firms, the TAJ said.

Small business operators and self-employed individuals with an annual income of up to $5 million are reminded that they still have time to maximise on free support sessions being offered by the Tax Authority, by taking along their business income and expenditure statements, Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) and a valid form of identification. These free sessions are designed to assist taxpayers to file their returns on time, while getting them registered to use its online services.

Individuals may visit the Income Tax Hub at www.jamaiacatax.gov.jm to view the schedule of the sessions and choose to visit any that is suitable to them.

Additionally, individuals may utilise TAJ’s eFiling facilities at select tax offices to file their returns online using its computers while getting support.

The eFiling locations are: Cross Roads, downtown Kingston, Montego Bay, Spanish Town, St Ann’s Bay, Mandeville, Portmore, May Pen, Morant Bay, Falmouth, and Savanna-la-mar.

The public is further reminded that Corporate Income Tax (CIT) must be filed online as of this tax season via TAJ’s online portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm on or before the March 15 due date.

This means corporate bodies, organizations such as Partnerships, Trusts, Estates, Building Societies, Life Assurances as well as registered Charities, must now file their Income Tax Returns and supporting documents online.

Financial Institutions are also reminded that they must file their Assets Tax Return (AT02) online.
