ON Wednesday’s (June 5, 2019) midweek card, the American-bred three-year-old chestnut gelding, Summer Sun , registered his second consecutive win on local soil going nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).

Summer Sun, ridden by Phillip Parchment, completed the win in a tidy time of 1:58.0, time which did not surprise his trainer Wayne DaCosta.

“First of all, he is bred to stay,” DaCosta pointed out and continued, “and is slowly getting his act together. This last run showed that his racing was much improved as he was able to stick to the pace from early. This enabled Summer Sun to introduce a lot of pace at the half-mile which basically won him the race. He seems to be on the improve and we have high hopes that he could possibly reach the top class,” DaCosta stated.

Summer Sun broke well and chased Code of Honor (Shane Ellis) for most of the trip until at the half-mile when he challenged for the lead.

Navigating the turn, Summer Sun took over from Code of Honor and began to draw clear from rivals. With no real challenger coming forward, Summer Sun cruised home by 7 ¼ lengths.

Stablemate Ricky Ricardo with female apprentice Abigail Able up was second and the Michael Marlowe-trained Code of Honor who was losing for the first time in three starts was third.
