Lower Chapelton to Rock River road closed
THE main road from Lower Chapelton to Rock River in Clarendon was closed yesterday because of damage from this week’s heavy rains.
Manager of communication and customer services at National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw said the decision to close the road was made when an inspection late yesterday afternoon revealed that a section of the road had broken away, while a retaining wall had collapsed.
The two failures along the road, said Shaw, posed a serious danger to the motoring public, so it was best to have it closed.
Motorists inconvenienced by the closure of the main road were asked to use the alternative route through Turners.
In the meantime, Shaw said Jobs Lane in Spanish Town, St Catherine, in the vicinity of the examination depot, remains closed because of the failure of a culvert.
Shaw also reported that the main road from Bartons to Old Harbour, also in St Catherine, was impassable at Big Pond, due to flooding.
The NWA was also monitoring the main road from Aberdeen to Windsor, where a section of that road is now under water. Motorists were advised to exercise caution along that corridor.
