KINGSTON, Jamaica — A taxi operator was arrested and charged by the police on Tuesday, October 1 after he led officers from the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) on a pursuit in St Andrew, while committing several breaches of the Road Traffic Act.

He has been identified as 46-year-old Dwight Roache of Hyde Park Road, Kingston 11.

Reports are that about 5:00 pm, PSTEB officers stopped Roache on South Camp Road, Kingston 5 after he was seen obstructing traffic. He was asked to produce his driver’s licence and documents for the vehicle but he refused and sped off.

The officers gave chase and subsequently caught up with him on Anderson Road in the Allman Town area.

He was escorted from his car and informed that he would be arrested and charged for various traffic violations. But while the officers were in the process of effecting the arrest, Roache reportedly ran off.

One of the officers gave chase, caught him and placed him into custody. Roache was taken to the Cross Roads Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving, obstructing traffic, disorderly conduct, assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.

He is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on November 4.
