OUR STAR!
Shericka Jackson, a past student of Vere Technical High School in Clarendon, was a star at the just-ended IAAF World Championships in Doha. A native of St Ann, 25-year-old Jackson ran her lifetime best of 49.47 seconds for bronze in the women’s 400m. Drafted into the 4x100m relay team at short notice, following the withdrawal of Elaine Thompson, Jackson anchored Jamaica to a sensational gold medal. There was even more joy for Jackson when she anchored the 4x400m relay team to the bronze medal. The team was initially disqualified for an alleged lane infraction, but Jamaica’s bronze was reinstated on appeal. Photo shows Jackson in the immediate aftermath of her 400m bronzemedal run.
