OLYMPIC Gardens FC, led by six goals from Kevina Reid, swamped Royal Lakes FC 13-0 in their 2019 Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/Lascelles Employees and Partner Co-operative Credit Union Women’s Premier League encounter at Cling Cling Oval last Saturday.

The win for the Michael Peart-coached Olympic Gardens aggregation was their fourth from six starts as they remained unbeaten in Zone A on 14 points, five behind defending champions Waterhouse FC with 19 points from seven outings, while Real Mona are third on 11 points from eight matches.

Reid scored her first in the 16th minute, her second in the 40th, before getting her hat-trick in the 51st minute. She scored another three goals in the 55th, 57th, and 90th+1 minutes.

The other goalscorers for Olympic Gardens were Ashely Sawyers in the 38th and 47th minutes, Ranee Scott in the 78th and 86th minutes, Stephanie Morgan 13th, and Roxine Solomon in the 46th and 80th minutes.

Meanwhile, defending champions Waterhouse FC through double strikes from Shantel Bailey and Moesha McLaughlin, crushed Real Mona FC 8-0 at Drewsland Mini-Stadium.

Shantel Bailey opened the scoring for Waterhouse in the first minute, with Captain Tarania Clarke making it 2-0 in the ninth minute. The third goal was scored by McLaughlin in the 20th minute, before Davia Richards made it 4-0 in the 43rd minute.

It took some time before Waterhouse got back into their scoring form, with Latoya Duhaney netting in the 72nd minute to be followed by Bailey with her second of the match in the 73rd minute, to make it 6-0. McLaughlin scored her second in the 80th, while Christina Salmon completed the goal fest in the 81st minute for an 8-0 victory.

Both McLaughlin from Waterhouse and Shadine Rutherford from Real Mona were ejected by the referee in the middle for violent conduct.

Elsewhere, Cavalier FC defeated Zone B bottom-of-the-table Rangers FC 4-0 at Alpha Institute.

Cavalier were registering their eighth-consecutive win from as many outings and extended their points tally in Zone B to 24 points, ahead of Arnett Gardens FC second on 16 points from seven games, with UWI Women’s FC third with 14 points from eight games.

Two goals from Rena Gordon in the 34th and 37th minutes, and one each from Sashana Watson (36th), and Peterkaye Green in the 50th minute were the players on target. Cavalier led 3-0 at half-time.

Coach Everdean Scarlett said the team should have scored many more goals from the number of chances created, including a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

“The team’s performance was below standard, as they had beaten their opponents 9-0 in their first-round meeting. The only difference in the match was the four goals they scored,” Scarlett said.

Meanwhile, a 90th-minute goal from substitute Subrina Berry squeezed through with an unspectacular 1-0 win against The University of the West Indies (UWI) Women’s FC at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Tamara Williams, coach of Arnett Gardens, said they should have won by a wider margin as the players got more than at least six easy chances from inside the penalty box.

“I think it was due to the two postponed matches that could have made the players lose their rhythm, but we are looking to finish at the top of the table in Zone B,” Williams said.

Arnett Gardens, who dominated the game from the outset, wasted several easy scoring chances, with most of the shots towards goal going over the crossbar. Shakira Douglas got at least three easy opportunities in the first half to give Arnett Gardens the lead but booted them over the bar. No goals were scored going into half-time.

Three minutes inside the second half, Arnett Gardens were awarded a penalty but Shenika Williams’ powerful shot hit the crossbar and rebounded into play.

After squandering so many scoring opportunities the goal finally came for Arnett Gardens through substitute Subrina Berry, who had replaced Tajay Stephenson midway the second half. She collected a pass just a few yards outside the penalty box and kicked over Chris Ann Chambers’ head into the goal to give the home team a 1-0 win.

Frasziers Whip FC chalked up their third win with a crushing 6-0 result over Northern Queens FC at Ewarton Sports Complex. They moved to nine points from seven matches in Zone B.

Scoring for Frasziers Whip were Shanel Nelson in the fourth and 51st minutes, Keneisha Allen (37th), Dadrian Munroe (70th), Samantha Bent (75th), and Telly Nunes in the 77th minutes.

Trelawny Women’s FC chalked up their first win from eight starts by defeating Royal Lakes FC 4-0 at Elletson Wakeland Centre. They had lost their first six matches in Zone A.
