The following is an open letter to Robert E Levy, chairman, Jamaica Broilers Group Limited:

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your receipt of the national honour, the Order of Jamaica, which is well deserved.

Your commitment and service to the agricultural sector over the many years have been transformative with a deliberate sense of purpose.

I would like to thank you for your support to me when I became president of the Jamaica Agricultural Society in 2003. Specifically the support that assisted with growing the Denbigh Agricultural Society from a $10-million organisation in 2003 to approximately $80 million when I left office in September 2018, and generating $1 billion for the agricultural sector and the Jamaican economy.

Additionally, your support to the ‘Grow what we eat’ campaign that I launched when I became president in November 2003 and the transformational move in the Jamaica poultry industry, moving the industry from import dependence to having the local poultry industry gaining stability by producing 56.8 million pounds of poultry meat in 2018.

Again, on behalf of our Jamaican farmers and the agricultural sector, thank you for your service to the industry and congratulations on your well-deserved honours.
