Samsung Galaxy Book Flex & Ion – The laptops with wireless charging
Last week, Samsung unveiled two new laptops at its Developer
Conference; The Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion. Both machines bring sleek
designs with cool features.
Both are the first two laptops certified
under Intel’s Project Athena programme. The programme focusses on speedy
wake-up times, portability, connectivity and long battery life for laptops.
The Galaxy book Flex is a 2-in-1 computer
with a 360° hinge. That means
the device can function as a full touch screen. The laptop folds into a tablet-style
or can prop up on the lower half like a kickstand.
The Galaxy Book Flex comes with an S Pen. Samsung also packed some cool features that debuted on the Note 10 devices. Air Actions on the Galaxy Book Flex allow the S Pen wireless, gesture-based control over specific programmes. You can flip through presentations or control YouTube videos, for example.
The Galaxy Book Ion is a conventional clamshell device. The Ion’s hinge opens and pivots the keyboard up for more comfortable typing and possibly allows cold air to circulate under the machine.
The most prominent feature on the new Galaxy Book devices is reverse wireless charging built right into the trackpad. Samsung introduced reverse wireless charging in its Galaxy S10 and Note10 devices, and now, the Wireless PowerShare technology is in the new laptops. The laptops’ trackpad can charge any Qi-compatible phone, smartwatch or other devices. If you use a mouse, this feature will come in handy when your phone or watch is running low on power.
Both the Book Flex and Book Ion are the
first laptops to use Samsung’s QLED technology found in their high-end smart
TVs. The QLED displays are bright and offer dynamic range. The screens can
maintain 400 nits of brightness but go up to 600 nits when Outdoor mode is
switched on. They can also display 100% of the DCI-P3 and sRGB colour spaces
for accurate, true to life colours.
Both models have 1080p displays that come
in 13.3 and 15.6-inch variants. The top-tier 15-inch models come with NVIDIA® GeForce® MX250
discrete GPUs, Intel 10th Generation Core processors and up to 16 GB
RAM.
