STATHS enter Manning Cup final
St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) qualified for the final of the ISSA/Digicel Manning schoolboy football competition on Wednesday (Nov 20), after defeating Wolmer’s 4-2 on penalties at the National Stadium.
The teams had battled to a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time. Steven McQueen opened the scoring in the 10th minute for STATHS, before Orlando Russell equalised for Wolmer’s five minutes after.
The first half belonged to STATHS, as kicking towards the hills, they dictated the action, camping in Wolmer’s half of the field. Wolmer’s were reduced to counter attacks.
Wolmer’s had a better performance in the second half, during which they held sway in patches. STATHS took the lead from a short corner, which was then crossed inside the penalty area. McQueen headed the ball into the goal. Wolmer’s equalising goal was from a quick counter, which was played from the middle of STATHS half diagonally along the ground to the left.
A number of defensive errors allowed Russell to run through to slot past custodian Ricardo Laing. STATHS fell behind in the ensuing penalties but tallied to recover and win.
