St Elizabeth hosts disabilities events today and tomorrow
NAIN, St Elizabeth — Help group, Nathan Ebanks Foundation will be seeking to make a big difference for children with disabilities during events at JISCo Alpart Sports Club here today and tomorrow.
Speech-language therapy will be in focus at a workshop starting at 8:00 am today entitled ‘Speech-Language Milestones Checklist/Screening Tool for Young Children’.
American speech-language expert Erin Mercer, described as a volunteer consultant who has been supporting the Nathan Ebanks Foundation’s work with children since 2016, is scheduled to play a prominent role.
Tomorrow the foundation will host a family expo and special needs resource fair aimed at building awareness of the material and other resources available to help children with disabilities.
“The main goal is to provide a space for parents and professionals to learn about resources that are available,” explained Christine Staple-Ebanks, founder and head of Nathan Ebanks Foundation, at a recent press launch.
This is the first time the annual fair is being held outside of Kingston. Staple-Ebanks explained that the decision to come to St Elizabeth was largely influenced by research showing a high incidence of disability among children here.
