Jamaica gets medical supplies worth over 500,000 euros from EU
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith today expressed gratitude to the European Union for a donation of medical supplies valued at over 500,000 euros to aid in Jamaica’s response to maternal and child mortality.
The minister, who made the announcement on Twitter this afternoon, said the equipment in the first instance will contribute to the fight against COVID-19.
“Yet another demonstration of external support notwithstanding challenging global times,” Johnson Smith tweeted.
The minister said the programme includes new maternity wards and will therefore promote healthy mothers and babies across the island.
She also thanked the European Union Delegation to Jamaica for an €8 million grant funding recently allocated to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) to support the regional COVID-19 response through which Jamaica will also benefit.
