FALMOUTH, Trelawny — The number of frontline workers in the Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA) who were vaccinated yesterday, as part of the islandwide roll out of the COVID-19 vaccination programme, far exceeded the targeted amount.

Some 804 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered, which were 310 more than the 530 initially targeted.

But despite the overwhelming number of frontline workers who were inoculated during the first day, head of the WRHA Errol Greene remains confident that there are still enough doses to satisfy the current demand.

“We have enough to satisfy the demand at the moment. We don’t know about next week but we have enough to satisfy the (current) demand,” Greene told OBSERVER ONLINE.

“We are using what we have. We wouldn’t like to know that it spoil so we are making appointments and people are coming. We just have to wait and see.”

Trelawny, St James, Hanover and Westmoreland are the parishes that make up the WRHA.
