More young people infected with COVID-19 but elderly dominate deaths
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Chief Medical Officer, Dr Jacqueline Bisasor-McKenzie is appealing once again to young people to follow the COVID-19 protocols and to practice personal responsibility.
Speaking during today’s COVID Conversations, Bisasor-McKenzie said young people, ages 20-39 years old, have the highest rate of virus infection now.
However, she noted that the case fatality rate is highest among patients 70 years and older.
She noted further that of the COVID-19 related deaths, 98.5 per cent had one or more comorbidities or risk factor.
Yesterday, six people over the age of 60 died from the virus. The ministry informed that 73 per sent of deaths so far were in the 60 and over age group.
