…American-based Justin Stewart chooses to represent Jamaica
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Olympic and World Championship silver medallist Kishane Thompson has not been entered for the 100m at the Jamaican Championship which is used to select teams to the various global championships for both junior and senior athletes.
The Jamaican Trials, as it is popularly called, is set to begin on Thursday, June 18 and finish on Sunday, June 21.
Athletes are vying for selection to the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, starting July 23, and the World Under-20 Championship set for Oregon, United States (US), between August 5 and 9.
Thompson was not amongst the entry list, and when contacted, his coach at MVP, Paul Francis, said: “No comment.”
Also missing from the 100m and 200m is Bryan Levell — the 2025 World 200m bronze medallist. But the field will have World Champion Oblique Seville, Ackeem Blake, Kadrian Goldson, Rohan Watson, Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, Sachin Dennis, Deandre Daley and promising youngster Gary Card.
Meanwhile, American-based Justin Stewart enters the Under-20 100m and 200m. The little-known runner to the Jamaican public is actually the son of Jamaican Olympians Raymond Stewart and Beverley McDonald.
He is eligible to represent the US but has decided to compete for Jamaica and the small island will get a good glimpse of the runner coming to town with 10.07 secs and 20.36 secs for the 100m and 200m.
Stewart will come face-to-face with the likes of Riquelme Reid, Sanjay Seymore, Malike Nugent, Johan-Ramaldo Smythe, Nyron Wade, Tyrece Foreman, Deequan Maragh and Jamal Stephenson.
